The closing credits of Doom Patrol season 3, episode 4, contained a mid-credits scene that introduced a new zombie menace to threaten the town of Cloverton. The brief scene proved a fitting conclusion for the episode “Undead Patrol.” However, it also hinted the World’s Strangest Heroes may not yet be done with their dealings with the dead.

The story of “Undead Patrol” was packed full of monsters as the five core members of the Doom Patrol found themselves transformed into brain-craving zombies. Precisely how this happened was never made clear. Still, it was believed to be due to a botched resurrection arranged by the Dead Boy Detectives after the Doom Patrol escaped the afterlife in the previous episode, “Dead Patrol.” Whatever the cause, the zombie Doom Patrol was still pressed into action to rescue the severed head of Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) from Agent Darren Jones (Jon Briddell) of the Bureau of Normalcy. Jones was revealed to have undergone a horrible transformation of his own, having been transformed into a were-butt sometime after seemingly being devoured by the strange monsters called Butts, which resembled ambulatory human backsides with fanged mouths.
